How to Keep a Dog From Escaping

!9#: How to Keep a Dog From Escaping

There are hundreds of dogs that go missing every year in the United States. In order to make this number decrease, it is important for dog owners to take the proper precautions when it comes to having a dog outside. Some people, who work or are out of the home all day, prefer to leave their dogs outside so they can play and get some fresh air during the daytime hours. It is especially important for these owners to make sure they have a good, protected area, so their dog does not escape. There are three general ways dog owners can make sure their dog does not escape from their property. The first is to install invisible CT fencing around the area with a shock collar to train the dog not to go away from the marked area. Secondly, there is just normal CT fences that would be made especially for the individual dog, depending on its' size and height. Finally, there is the option of specialized dog training. The following paragraphs provide a more in-depth look at each method previously introduced.

1. Using a shock collar to train a dog into staying in the designated area is a good way to ensure the dog does not leave the property. This type of training works well with most dogs as many do not like being shocked, so many will just stay on the property. The one thing owners must be mindful of is whether or not the dog still tries to wander after getting used to the shock. In these cases, the owner may want to try a different method or be alright with increasing the voltage in the shock collar. This type of training does not work with all dogs, something that is important to note.

2. Having a special barrier set up around the perimeter of the house will most likely keep many types of dogs from trying to escape. Most American dog owners use this method to keep their canine on the property. It is important to make sure that the barrier is high enough so the dog cannot possibly jump over it.

3. There are special dog training classes in which a professional will help train the dog to stay on the property without a shock collar or any kind of physical barrier. In some cases this is successful, but it is probably best to make sure at least one person is home to keep an eye on the dog in case they do decide to wander off the property. Usually this technique is used when owners want to sit outside or do some yard work and the dog can come out with the owner without a collar or physical barrier. It is probably not a good idea to leave a dog outside all day with no supervision and no shock collar or barrier.

Dog owners need to be careful with their dogs outside, so their pet does not escape or go missing. It is important to take the steps necessary to ensure the safety of your dog by selecting a method that is best for your dog to keep it on your property.
